Boric Acid Suppositories may help improve vaginal health and has been shown to have anti-microbial and anti-fungal activity. When used appropriately, boric acid suppositories can help reduce the risk of recurrent infections. At times, boric acid suppositories work more effectively than traditional medications, like some antifungals, which are used for treating yeast infections.
The principal reason that women take boric acid suppositories is to combat yeast infections. Essentially, they work by denying the conditions which allow yeast to grow. It does that by both promoting the growth of helpful bacteria within the vagina and antioxidants like vitamins E and C.
NOTE: Boric acid causes irritation to open wounds in and around the vagina and should not be used in such cases. Boric acid is highly poisonous when taken orally. It should only be used as a vaginal suppository when prescribed by a health care provider.
